Frequently Asked Questions

Is your sunroof LTA compliance?

Yes our sunroofs are LTA compliance. After the installation of the sunroof, owner of the car is required to send his / her vehicle to any of the authorized inspection center (such as VICOM) for inspection.

Will removing the roof stiffener affect the safety of my car?

Some cars have very soft roof stiffener, which is not part of the vehicle's SIPS (Side Impact Protection Systems). The roof stiffener main purpose is to support the roof top. Thus removing these roof stiffener will not affect the safety of the vehicle.

For those vehicles that have roof stiffener as part of the SIPS (Side Impact Protection Systems), WEBASTO has specially developed the Roof Stiffener Replacement System (RSR System). The RSR System is used on vehicles where the roof stiffener is removed from under the roof is deemed part of the Side Impact Protection System. Approval was granted to this system by the German TUV following extensive crash testing in Europe and it is now fitted as standard on any Hollandia 300, 400, 500, and 700 installations in vehicles which require this stiffener.

Will the sunroof affect the deployment of the side curtain airbag?

These are another concern, with regard to sunroof mounting brackets and roof lining modifications. We are not allowed to interfere with the air-bag mounting points or obstruct the operation of the curtain in any way. Our installations DO NOT interfere with the deployment of the air bag as our sunroof is always mounted ABOVE the air-bag curtain. If a vehicle is deemed unsuitable then we do not install a sunroof.

Is the quality of the aftermarket sunroof as good as the factory fitted?

Our aftermarket sunroofs are without exception top quality products with a 3 year warranty. As the world's most successful manufacturer of sunroofs, WEBASTO supplies sunroof systems for almost all types of vehicle. With 2 million plus sunroofs factory-fitted every year, over 50% of the world's sunroof systems come from WEBASTO. And from us you directly get the same level of quality the world's largest automobile manufacturers rely on!

Does it make any sense to install a sunroof when I have got the air-conditioning anyway?

Yes because the two systems offer totally different benefits. The air-conditioning system keeps the temperature cool. The sunroof system provides fresh air and natural light conditions and creates a pleasant in-car feeling 365 days a year.

And the latest studies show that fresh air can do much more than just that: It is a real stimulant and improves your concentration. Compared with letting air in through a side window, the circulation of air created by opening the sunroof offers yet another advantage: the constant supply of air from the above means you don't suffer from draughts!

Does a sunroof affect the way I drive?

Yes positively! The greater amount of light and better mixture of air and distribution of temperature maintains and even regenerates the feeling of well-being inside the car. Sunroofs also have a positive influence on the reaction of the driver and therefore make a positive contribution towards improving road safety.

Which vehicles can be equipped with a sunroof?

Almost any vehicle, irrespective of how old, can be equipped with a sunroof system.

How long does the installation take?

For the H100 and H300 sunroof, installation takes a day. We'll need 2 days if soft headliner is requested. Other sunroofs will take 2 days.

What is Venus© glass?

Venus© glass is a specially tinted safety glass that reflects 80% of the light, 99% of the UV radiation, and 97% of the heat from the sun. All our sunroofs are equipped with Venus© glass except for the H-400 folding sunroof (because it features canvas roof top).

How should I maintain my sunroof?

If people knew how simple it is to look after their sunroof, we wouldn't hear stories of leaks and rattles. Even factory installed sunroofs need servicing. The maintenance varies depending on the type of sunroof.

In-built style sunroofs, whether factory fitted or fitted aftermarket, all have drain tubes and channels to carry the water away from the sunroof chassis, because the seals can't be designed to be 100% watertight, and still allow the sunroof panel to pass through the opening. These plastic tubes run down all four roof pillars and drain out at various points under the vehicle. They should be checked by the owner about every 3 months by pouring water into the drainage channels, and watching it run out under the vehicle. The rear drains work when the vehicle is facing uphill. If they are blocked they need to be cleared with compressed air only.

Rubber seals need to be cleaned and lubricated with a light smear of talcum powder. To prevent leaks keep dirt off them and keep leaves from getting caught under them.

Tracks where the mechanism slides need to be lubricated with silicon spray too. Dirt and grit needs to be wiped out. Never use grease, WD spray or petroleum jelly in the tracks as this holds the dirt. On 4WD's watch out for sand and dirt blowing into the sunroof.
